A little bit of self-disclosure - years and years ago, as I was preparing to graduate college, I called my mom, really upset. I said, “Mom, I don’t know what I am good at.” She replied, “You’re good with people.” At the time, I wasn’t sure what that meant, but now it all makes sense. I am passionate about working with people. More than that, I am honored to support and witness the healing journeys people take.
In 2011, I received my master’s in social work from the University of Chicago, which gave me an understanding of the connections between individual and community healing. Several years later I completed initiation to become a sangoma, aka., a traditional healer within the Zulu lineage, which furthered my healing, expanded my relationship to my own spirit, and gave me new ways to approach healing with others. Most recenlty, I completed a training to be an End-of-Life Doula.
These paths have greatly informed my work and have gifted me with deep compassion for the human condition and an ongoing desire to help others align with their authentic selves. And, over the years, I have been honored to witness and be part of the beautiful transformations of those who once came to me hoping to “just feel better one day”.
As a social worker, psychotherapist and spiritual life coach, I believe my role is to help those on an intentional healing journey to achieve alignment with their own spirits. I am here to walk with you to and through the doors of your own healing, and help you to navigate the discomfort that comes with shifting your current way of being in the world.
Why I Focus on Women:
While I have had the privilege of working with and learning from diverse populations for over 10 years, my practice focuses on women who are overwhelmed, in a rut and exploring their life’s purpose. I understand the unique challenges we face as women impact our ability to be our most authentic selves and can prevent us from having the lives we want.
These challenges include reconciling our need to be heard with our fear of taking up too much space; existing in a society that judges us by the sizes and shapes of our bodies, the color of our skin, our hairstyles, and the sound of our voices; overcoming thoughts that say, “I am an imposter”; and managing the effects of our adverse experiences while carrying the weight of the world on our shoulders.
My Fundamental Beliefs:
Tears and laughter are medicine from your soul.
You make the rules that guide your life.
You are your greatest healer, and I serve as a witness, guide and partner in your healing process.
Your healing is a sacred, divine right, and unique to you, and happens in your body, mind, spirit and in community.
You are a spiritual being having a very human experience.
Our primary purposes as human beings is to heal and live authentically.
Traumatic and adverse experiences are ones that are stored in the body and have an impact on your ability to connect to yourself and the world around you.
Sometimes our emotions aren’t too big, it’s our containers that are too small. To accept ourselves and move into alignment, we need to learn to expand our emotional containers and sit with uncomfortable feelings.
The process is just as important as the destination.
Healing isn’t about being “good”. It’s about finding balance between your masculine and feminine energies, your lightness and darkness, and your internal and external worlds.
